This era is inarguably the golden age of cinema in Saudi Arabia. Screens have finally returned to the kingdom following the lift of the decades-long ban on movie theaters in the country.
Earlier this week, Saudis witnessed the launch of one of the first-ever open-air cinemas in the Gulf nation. The outdoor theater opened as part of Jeddah Season, an ongoing festival, and was organized by Muvi Cinemas, a Saudi cinema company that's soon to launch in the kingdom.
Just hours after ticket sales were announced, the open air cinema took Saudi Twitter by storm, and to say people loved it would truly be an understatement.
Locals were thrilled with the idea of watching a movie by the sea and couldn't contain their excitement over the entire thing.
From the looks of it, pop-up outdoor cinemas are going to be all the rage in the kingdom over the next few months, but we are yet to see.
People are losing it over this outdoor cinema
Everyone's rushing to get tickets
"Outdoor cinema, ticked off my bucket list"
"Cinema is Jeddah in a different, imaginative way that we wouldn't have dreamed of"
"Just wow"
Jeddah's first-ever summer festival is proving to be a success
The festival is attracting people from both inside and outside of the kingdom. Tourists attending it are currently getting a special fast-track visa to enter the country. The document is being issued online via Sharek within three minutes of any online ticket purchase.
The seasonal event features a pretty epic concert line-up. In addition to that, it offers more than 150 activities, tapping into various sectors including entertainment, culture, food, and sports. Art galleries and exhibitions are part of the events, so are folklore dances and performances.
People attending the festival are also enjoying dishes served by award-winning Michelin-starred restaurants and pop-up eateries, all available at Jeddah's Waterfront.
