Earlier this week, Sophia became the first ever humanoid robot to receive citizenship after she was granted the Saudi nationality.

According to Al Arabiya, the robot received the news while attending the Future Investment Initiative conference, which is currently taking place in Riyadh.

In a now-viral video, Sophia is seen accepting the citizenship live on stage.

In her acceptance speech, she said:

"I am very honored and proud for this unique distinction. This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship," she said.

People can't even

Soon after the news started to make the rounds online, it went completely viral on Twitter and trended for hours.

Here's a little of what people had to say:

"She can laugh too? I just can't handle this"

A few don't know how to feel about the entire thing

"What?"

Some have questions

"OK, what language does she speak?"

A few Saudi women are turning to sarcasm

"Who's her guardian?"

Some want Sophia to get an Arab name

"I wish they renamed her Safia instead of Sophia."

Some think this is a great achievement

Others... well, not so much

"How is this even possible in a country where there are over 250,000 stateless people who suffer when it comes to receiving their most basic of rights?"
