On Wednesday, the Riyadh education department announced that all schools and universities in the capital have closed due to the sandstorm taking over various parts of the kingdom.
All educational institutes in the provinces attached to Ramah, Thadig, Muzahmip, Hremala, Daraia, and Hrdma are also closed down.
The Saudi General Authority for Meteorology and Environmental Protection issued the decision to "ensure the safety of students", according to Arab News.
Authorities expect the storm to continue over the next few days, with winds to hit speeds of 55 km/h.
