A school was fined and one administrator jailed last week in Saudi Arabia for having a rainbow painted on it, Euronews reported. Basically: If you like rainbows, the religious police will be coming after you because you must be gay or supporting gays or maybe even harboring them someway or another.
The Saudi Society Channel, which acts as the media representative of the country’s Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice on Twitter, announced the edict Friday evening:
The committee, which is Saudi Arabia's "religious police," fined Riyadh's Talee al-Nour International school 100,000 riyals ($26,000) for putting up "the symbol of homosexuality" on its building. The school has since painted over the rainbow.
Clearly, the committee realized the rainbow's colors clashed with the country's official stance: White is the new black. Unless you're a woman, then you better not be wearing anything but black. So this begs the question: Why would you ever let the school paint over the rainbow in that ghastly shade of blue?!
Homosexuality in Saudi Arabia is a criminal offense, punishable by flogging and jail time under the strict Shariah law enforced in the kingdom.
