Today marks the 70th birthday of Dubai's Ruler, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE — Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Born on July 15 in 1949, Al Maktoum is one of four sons of Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Al Maktoum - former VP of the UAE - and one of the most loved leaders in the emirates.

His extended philanthropist work has reached millions of people, occasionally saving lives. Through his several initiatives and foundations - Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives (MBRGI), Al Jalila Foundation, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, and Al Maktoum Foundation, to name a few - he's changed lives and, ultimately, the country.

Ever since he assumed the position as prime minister of the emirates, he has introduced some innovative plans that have propelled the GCC country to an international status.

In 2010, he tabled Vision 2021 with the aim of establishing the UAE as one of the best countries in the world ... and it's working really well so far.

"He rolled out his basic principles for sustainable development including fostering innovation, engaging youth, developing human capital, investing in education and scientific research, establishing good governance in the UAE government sector and promoting the growth of a knowledge-based economy," wrote Gulf News.

Residents of the UAE are celebrating the leader's platinum birthday with heartfelt wishes online, as he's admired by many locals and expats.
