Qatar's Hamad International Airport is one of the best in the world, according to the latest ranking by Skytrax.

Qatar was ranked No. 10 in the world in the annual list, up from No. 22 in 2015. It was also named the best airport in the Middle East and recognized for having the best airport staff in the region. Doha is the top airport in the 30-40 million annual passengers tier.

Singapore's Changi Airport was No. 1 internationally, followed by South Korea's Incheon International Airport and Germany's Munich Airport.

Regionally, Dubai came in at 26, Abu Dhabi was No. 38, and Bahrain was 47. No other regional airports featured in the top 100.

Doha's Qatar Airways was also ranked the No. 1 airline in the world last year by SkyTrax.

The Gulf states have invested heavily in their national carriers and airports, seeking to capitalize off of their convenient location between Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Their rapid growth has led to regulatory disputes with American carriers, who accuse the Gulf states of illegally subsidizing Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways and Emirates .
