Mayor Anne Hidalgo has announced plans to open the first refugee camp in Paris.

Hidalgo mentioned that "she will build a reception center and shelter for refugees" to replace the camps that offer poor living conditions for refugees and that have been closed down time and again for health reasons.
"We cannot accept any longer the humanitarian situation, the sanitary situation that migrants have to put up with," Hidalgo told reporters, according to Al Jazeera .
The exact location of the refugee camp has not yet been determined, however several sites in the north of Paris have been identified. Hidalgo emphasized that unlike other camps, this one will conform to UN conditions.
“I hope that it will provide both a day care centre to assess people’s situation and also a site that allows the accommodation of those arriving destitute,” she added, according to The Independent .
The camp is set to open within the next six weeks.
Earlier this year, France opened its first internationally recognized refugee camp, Grande-Synthe, in Dunkirk on France's northern coast, which is home to thousands of refugees. The camp has been criticized for not being sanitary enough, with only two drinking water stations and 26 toilets.
