It's a typical sight in the streets of Beirut, a refugee mother or father carrying a child, trying to sell pens, gum or anything to make money to feed their family. More often than not, residents of the city just pass them by without notice.

But this passed week, one man and his daughter got noticed and went viral.

Abdul was carrying his daughter Reem over his shoulder while trying to sell pens in the street when someone snapped his photos. Posting the image to social media, it began to be circulated.

That's when Icelandic Tweeter Gissur Simonarson, who is based in Norway, shared the photo and Abdul's live was set to change forever.

Simonarson began receiving message after message asking for a way to help the father. So, Simonarson turned back to Twitter to help him locate the unknown man.

Within one hour the man had tentatively been located.

A Twitter account called #BuyPens was created to find the man and rally users to raise funds.

Shortly later, the man was found and identified.

Then, Samonarson started an Indiegogo campaign in hopes of raising $5,000 for Abdul and Reem.

Now, just days later and only 15 hours since the campaign was launched, more than $40,000 has been raised for Abdul and his family.

According to the Indeigogo page, "Abdul is a Palestinian Syrian from the Yarmouk refugee camp, probably one of the worst places to live in Syria right now. He is a single father with two children, Abdelillah (boy) 9 years old, and Reem (girl) 4 1/2 years old."
