The slump Dubai's tourism sector experienced in the first part of 2019 was very short-lived as the industry got back on track in a matter of months.

On Tuesday, new data published by Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) revealed that the emirate recorded an all-time high of 16.73 million international overnight visitors last year. This constitutes a 5.1-percent increase in numbers compared to those registered in 2018.

Officials added that the tourism sector contributed 11.5 percent to the emirate's GDP, "capturing direct international tourism spending worth $27.9 billion." Speaking about the industry's latest feat, Helal Saeed Almarri, Dubai Tourism's director-general, said the sector shows signs of growing and expanding further across the coming months.

The local industry's fast recovery is no surprise given that Dubai's leaders have spared no effort in creating a touristic hotspot out of the city.

Dubai is known for being warm and welcoming to tourists from all around the world. This year, the emirate unveiled a new system that allows visitors to apply for a five-year multi-entry visa.
