Morocco's king just threw his weight behind Saad Lamjarred.

King Mohammed  VI has hired a top-notch lawyer to represent the Moroccan pop-star, who is currently facing rape charges in France.

"This is a favorable response to a request from the family of the singer who sought his majesty's intervention, and with respect for the presumption of innocence," the Moroccan embassy in Paris said, according to The Independent.

The popular singer of the record-breaking hit "Lmaalem" was charged with "aggravated rape" and "aggravated voluntary violence" on Friday in Paris. The lawyer, Eric Dupond Morreti, hired by the king is said to be known for securing acquittals, according to Al Araby.

Last year, Dupond Morreti represented the king in France when two French journalists were charged with attempting to blackmail the ruler. The journalists demanded more than 2 million euros to forego publishing a book that contained damaging information about the monarch.

Paris police arrested the 31-year-old singer last week, charging him with sexually assaulting an unnamed French woman. Lamjarred reportedly attempted to rape one of the girls accompanying him.

Scheduled to perform at Paris’ Palais des Congrés last Saturday, Lamjarred was staying at the Marriott Champs Elysées Hotel, where the assault allegedly took place.

This isn’t the first time Lamjarred makes headlines for sexual assault. Earlier this year, an American woman accused Lamjarred of physically and sexually assaulting her in Brooklyn in 2010.

The singer allegedly fled the US after posting bail, having been arrested and indicted.

According to The National, Lamjarred denied all accusations and pinned them on being “blessed with fame."

“A lot of big stars have faced similar situations,” he said.

Last year, the 2007 “Super Star” contestant released his first major hit – “Lmaallem” – which became the most viewed Arabic music video on YouTube. He garnered well over 2 million followers on Facebook and half a million on Twitter, many of which refuse to believe the news holds any shred of truth.
