A young Egyptian graphic designer has created an art project showcasing the commonality between all humanity by blending the faces of Arab and Western celebrities.
For her project, Hagar Nagi found international celebrities who resemble Arab actors and then combined the images in one photo. Without the help of Photoshop or any editing software, Hagar's blended photographs of celebrities are individual pieces of art that clearly show the similarities and resemblances between diverse people.
Though Nagi was a graduate of Alexandria University's Faculty of Commerce, graphic design was her passion and she chose to follow that path. In 2011, she started her own project called Charizma Art .
Inspired by the Instagram hashtag #ReplaceMyFace, Nagi started to collect pictures of celebrities. After positioning the photos on top of each other, she would then snap a picture of the unique hybrid images. This simplistic blending of two celebrities from opposite sides of the world amplifies the beauty of the two individuals.
“The Instagram hashtag #ReplaceMyFace inspired me a lot and I wanted to use it my way,” Nagi told Daily News Egypt.
“Implementing the idea was a great challenge for me, especially when I decided not to use any graphic editing applications and depend only on my camera and my room’s lighting system to adjust the photos. The whole trick is about the way I adjust the positions of my laptop and the screen of my mobile phone."
Hagar's definition of a "look alike" is different from others. The way she sees it, some people may have a strong resemblance to one another because of the similarity in their personalities, facial expressions and body language.
“The hybrid photo doesn’t only rely on the similarity of the face’s features and the outer appearance but it also relies on personality similarities. I have to admit that I was really surprised to find out [the] huge likeness between Marlin Monroe and Hend Rostom, Audrey and Sherihan, Will Smith and Ahmed Zaki,” she explained.
Hagar hopes that the #ReplaceMyFace initiative will make people feel happy and inspire them to think about their past and their present.
"I hope I created something different while enabling people to find the happiness in everything around them, even the smallest things." she told StepFeed.
