A Saudi man who resembles Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is causing quite the stir on social media.

Photos of the lookalike, who has now been identified as Meshari Al Molqeb, have resurfaced online, with many mistaking the man for being the young Saudi leader.

The images first appeared online in October 2017, according to local media.

However, on Wednesday, Al Moqleb clarified in a tweet that the photos going viral are of himself and not the crown prince.

"One of the customers in the restaurant took the photo without my knowledge and published it. It was taken in a restaurant near my house, not in Neom," the man wrote in a tweet.

The rumors spread like wildfire

"Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman spotted in Al Rayan restaurant. May Allah protect him from all harms."

"Talk to me about modesty, and I'll talk about Mohammed bin Salman"

"The difference is clear"

Many began sharing proof that the news is old

"The photos are old ... and it's clear that this isn't the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman"

This isn't the first time a crown prince doppelgänger makes headlines

Earlier this year, footage of another crown prince doppelgänger, who's identified as Eissa Abu Shaiba Al Mutairi, went viral.

Speaking to Al Mnatiq news site, Al Mutairi, who works in the special needs section of Riyadh's National King Fahed Library, said he wasn't trying to impersonate bin Salman.

"The videos of me have gone viral spontaneously after people mistook me for being the crown prince. The amount of attention I've been getting reflects how popular and loved he is in the kingdom," he said.
