Our favourite Palestinian singer, Mohammed Assaf, has finally unveiled the video to his latest single "Aywa Haghani" (Yes I Will Sing) just in time for his album's release.
"New [single] for Mohamad Assaf, Yes I Will Sing, #CairoInaDay, Directed by Munir Barakat"
Assaf's highlighting of the Egyptian street, mixed with the song style, are a direct hint to his upcoming album, which will feature songs exclusively in the Egyptian dialect.
Speaking about the video to The National, Assaf said, "The clip is not just showing the glamorous area. We head to [Egypt's] traditional neighbourhoods and you can see the people are generous and passionate.”
The video opens on a typical Egyptian scene where people – including Assaf – are seen eating koushari, before taking a walk in a small alley where old men play backgammon or smoke shisha. The video makes sure to emphasize the daily routines of a mundane Cairo day.
"All my gratitude for the Aywa Ha Ghani's video success goes to the good Egyptian people who were featured and who gave it a special meaning. I love you"
