Prominent Egyptian singer Mohamed Mounir released a music video to accompany the release of his new song Monday, in an much-awaited comeback.
The black-and-white music video for the song, titled "Ana Mennek Etaalemt" (I've learned from you), went viral shortly after it was posted, climbing to the top of YouTube Egypt's trending chart and getting more than 600,000 views in less than three days.
In true Mounir fashion, the song combines melancholic orchestral tunes, seemingly cryptic lyrics, heartbreak and his ever-sincere and heartfelt vocals, a combination the icon's fans are familiar with and happy to welcome back.
It quickly took the No. 1 spot on iTunes in Egypt, surpassing Sam Smith's "Writing's on the Wall" and Adele's smash-hit "Hello".
The singer's comeback spurred multiple trending hashtags on Twitter and received generally positive reactions from fans, with many reveling in the return of their "king" and applauding the song's mystic sound and emotional and relatable lyrics.
"Mounir's new song you guys, as much as it breaks your heart it represents a true state that leaves you touched by it, from its lyrics and melody."
"This man is the only one that feels what we wish we could say."
Mounir hasn't released an album since his 2012 album "Ahl El Arab Wel Tarab," which featured the hit single "El Boe'd Nar."
The world-renowned Egyptian singer has amassed an impressive collection of commercially successful and critically acclaimed music over the course of almost four decades.
He rose to prominence for his innovative musical style that combines classical Arabic and Nubian music with Western blues, jazz and reggae, as well for his unique vocals and deeply emotional lyrics. His dedicated fans simply refer to him as "the king," a homage to his place in Arabic music.
