On Sunday, a massive fire broke out in Saudi Arabia's public prosecution building in Dammam. The Saudi Civil Defense, alongside 20 firefighting and rescue units, rushed to the scene to control the fire. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

According to the Saudi Gazette, a source from the public prosecution confirmed that the fire did not cause any "human or data losses".

Meanwhile, Prince Saud Bin Naif, governor of the Eastern Province, has ordered a committee to investigate the incident.

"No injuries were reported" in the 10-storey tower

"At around 2 pm on Sunday, the Civil Defense team approached the fire that engulfed the external building facades of the Public Prosecutor's Office, and kept it under control without any injuries."

A video of the fire began making the rounds on Twitter

The fire reportedly began on the terrace of the building due to a technical fault and lack of maintenance work in the air conditioning system.

The flames spread to the lower floors and ultimately engulfed the entire building.

"Horrific"

"Spare a thought for the firefighters who had to put out this terrible blaze"

Not the first fire in the kingdom in recent years

In August 2017, six buildings in Jeddah's historic town, Al Balad, caught fire, three of which eventually collapsed to the ground. At least 60 people were forced to evacuate the buildings; six people in total were left injured.

According to last year's statistics, fire accidents have been on the rise in Saudi Arabia. In 2016, 51,781 fires were recorded across the kingdom, a one percent increase from 51,188 incidents reported in 2015.

In a report released by the country's Civil Defense, it was stated that around 65 percent of fire accidents occur in residential buildings or houses.

The report also found that the majority of fire accidents in the country were caused by children who were left unattended. Other main causes were found to be faulty gas stoves and heaters.
