A Saudi man was arrested Thursday after shooting Dr. Muhannad Al Zabn, a male obstetrician, for delivering his wife's baby a month ago at the King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh.

The man argued that the doctor had no right to "assist his wife's delivery and that a woman gynecologist should have been around," according to Gulf News .

Apparently, the father asked the doctor to meet him in private to "thank" him personally for assisting his wife during labor. After meeting in the garden of the hospital, the man fired at the doctor.

Bassam Al Buraikan, the hospital's spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said the doctor is in stable condition.

People have taken to social media with the hashtag #IndependantHospitalsForWomen ( مستشفيات_نسائيه_مستقلة ) to discuss the incident.

Many are arguing that female obstetricians should always be available as it is a woman's right to have a female doctor during delivery

It is every female doctor and nurse's right to have the freedom to perform her duties separated from men. Where's the justice?

It's every woman's wish to have segregated hospitals where she can move and roam freely in the hospital.  Experience proves that woman can succeed in the medical field especially obstetrician and gynecology.

It's our right as women to have segregated hospitals to avoid potential harassment and expose female private body parts more comfortably.

Creating independent hospitals for women and exclusive markets for women is a valid demand...

It provides safety, freedom, comfort, privacy, better accomplishments, better work opportunities  and development

And many have voiced their frustrations online as well...
