Dying phones are so not cool. Here are seven tips for keeping your phone's charge going for longer and stronger. Some of these apply for Android users as well, but the main focus is for iPhone users.

1. Turn off data.

Keeping data turned off saves your phone from connecting from the internet, and keeps its battery going longer. This is especially true if you are traveling through a bad 3G zone, as the phone will spend a lot of energy trying to connect.

2. Turn off Wifi.

As soon as you are not using Wifi, turn that sheez off. A cellphone wastes a lot of battery trying to find networks to connect to while you are strolling around town.

3. Go into "Airplane Mode".

If you can bear it, turn Wifi, data and all messaging off altogether. This will keep your phone juice strong.

4. Close all apps.

As soon as you're done using an application, close it down all together.

5. Know which apps use the most battery.

If you don't want to keep all your apps closed, know which ones are the biggest battery-vampires. Facebook and the Weather app are the worst abusers of the battery, so keep those closed, always.

6. Reduce the number of times your email downloads.  Change it to every five minutes or half an hour.

Every time your phone send a signal up to a server, it drains the battery.  If you want to stay connected to Wifi or data, try to reduce the amount of times your phone downloads emails from the server.

7. Kill the brightness.

It might be nicer to browse a friend's Instas from last weekend with a high brightness, but having that turned up really pulls the phone's charge. Go the old fashioned way and sit near a lamp. Or try using a headlamp. We're only half-joking on that one.

If you've already killed your battery (rookie mistake), turn your phone off so that it can charge faster. This is great for when you are using a friend's charger or leaving your phone behind the bar.
