Huge masses of Egyptians took to the streets Monday as hysteria took over Cairo at the news that Dunkin Donuts was opening its first branch in the capital.

OK, maybe a slight exaggeration. Or maybe not:

"This is not the line to order meat that we can't afford; this is the line for Dunkin Donuts."

To understand a bit more about why exactly people are overwhelmingly excited over this opening, you need to know one thing: Donuts in Egypt are often so terrible and they tend to be tasteless, stale, and inedible. Therefore, we often have to wait till we travel abroad to be able to eat majestic, heavenly created, delicious donuts.

When Dunkin Donuts announced that the first 250 customers would get their yummy foods for free, the crowd grew larger and larger. After all, who doesn't like free stuff?

"I don't really know how to go through life without Dunkin Donuts."

The location of the store couldn't have been better as Cairo's 90th street in Tagamoa Awal is in the middle of everything and therefore, it's a short drive – unless there is traffic, say donut induced traffic – to the pastry shop.

"Dunkin Donuts is now open? Now, we must get Taco Bell so we can live properly."

Luckily for those who couldn't get close enough to see what was going on, the people in line live tweeted the whole thing. What did we do before social media?

"There's a girl cussing at Dunkin Donuts for wasting 5 hours of her life."

"Congratulations to Egyptian but may tea rest in peace."

"Dunkin Donuts is overly crowded. I am still unsure as to what is wrong with sugar coated pies."

"Everyone that went to Dunkin Donuts is praising their delicious falafels."

"TBS's statement in regards of the Dunkin Donuts mania: Did we ever mess up something?"

"Now the only thing that's left is the "Russian Culture Center is giving 50 percent discount in honor of the Dunkin Donuts opening.""
