It's that time of year again when shops are stocked with huge red teddies, roses, and red boxes of chocolate. Yup, Valentine's Day is upon us. 

While some people look forward to celebrating the occasion with their partners, others just hate everything about it.

We spoke to a few Arabs who happen to be hosting anti-Valentine's Day events ... because who said they can't enjoy the 14th of February the non-mainstream way?

"I am hosting a 'we hate valentines day' party for all my friends. We all despise the day, even those of us who aren't single don't get it. So we're coming together to hate on it." - Lama, Lebanon. 

"Just because we aren't celebrating love or being in love on this specific day doesn't mean we don't want to have fun. I planned a luxury dinner for all my single friends because what's better than friendship and food?" - Samer, Saudi Arabia. 

"Me and my gals are having a love letter bonfire. We gathered every letter and note we've gotten from our exes and we're just going to enjoy watching them burn." - Salma, Egypt. 

"I am not going to sit and dwell on my relationship status. I've planned the perfect night in for myself. Food, a show to binge-watch and that's it." - Lina, Kuwait. 

"Why should couples be the only ones to take advantage of the Valentines Day specials and perks? We decided we'll get them too. Me and a few friends decided to book a couples-only offer and we're just going together. Yes, I scheduled a couples-only spa week-end, but I am going with friends." - Rima, UAE.
