Lack of attention main cause of Kuwait's road accidents

The main cause of the accidents was the use of smartphones and other electronic devices during driving in Kuwait.

In the past five years, 2,437 Kuwaiti residents died in road accidents in the country. In the first four months of 2016, 155 have died, according to the Ministry of Interior report.

In 2015, 80,827 accidents were registered, of which 95 percent were caused by "lack of attention while driving" as opposed to the 0.46 percent caused by excess speeding.

Brigadier Hamad Al-Enezi, Director of the Criminal Affairs Department at the Ministry of Interior, said that the "main cause of the accidents was the use of smartphones and other electronic devices during driving," according to Arabian Business .

However, that being said, the number of road deaths over the years has dropped from 493 in 2011 to 461 in 2014 and to 429 in 2015.
