Kuwait's Ministry of Commerce shut down a restaurant after an inspection revealed they were offering pork meat on their menu, Al Qabas newspaper reported

In adherence to Islamic sharia, pork meat is strictly prohibited in the Gulf state.

According to the local publication, the restaurant, which is located in Hawally, was raided by an inspection team who often visits cafes and food selling points to ensure safety guidelines are being followed.

Pork meat and food items were found during the probe and have now been sent to ministry laboratories. Lab tests are set to confirm the exact type of meat that was being sold.

The restaurant has since been shut down and its owners are set to face legal consequences.

The news is making the rounds on social media...

As news of the incident continues to circulate online, hundreds of tweeps are reacting to it.

Some also noted that a tip off by tweeps who had previously spotted the restaurant's menu might have led to the ministry's action against it.

Some people are reacting to the incident with humor

"Translating a menu from English to Arabic using google translate will land you in trouble."

Others are quite upset and confused

"Pork meat in Kuwait... how was it imported here??"

Many are expressing their shock

"They openly featured it on their menu."

"What's the name of this place?"

People continue to circulate the supposed restaurant's menu
