As soon as you start to think backlash over racist incidents can help prevent them from recurring across the region, a video goes viral and proves you wrong.

Earlier this week, footage capturing the moment a man asked people if Asian expats who work as cleaners "have the right to drink Starbucks drinks" went viral on Twitter.

In the clip, the man films an Asian worker - who's allegedly based in Kuwait - carrying a Starbucks drink. He's then heard saying:

"This is a cleaner but he's a young man, does he have the right to drink coffee from Starbucks? Give us your opinion."

The video was later uploaded to Twitter, sparking outrage among many who hit back at the man's unacceptable, racist question.

Others speculated whether the person who filmed the clip staged the incident and posted it as joke or prank.

Regardless, people were having none of it and felt the question was uncalled for no matter the circumstance.

Some thought the man was actually trolling those who are racist towards workers

"I have a feeling the person filming this asked this question because of the racism these workers have faced in recent months."

Others weren't having any of it

"What kind of question is this? And why film the man? Everything he did was racist. That's all it is."

Because what was he expecting anyone would say?

"So you think you're raising an issue!! What kind of question is this?!! What do you want us to say? Yes, he has a right to buy anything he wants!!"

People were angered by the footage

"People have become so rude. Put yourself in his shoes... just for your information, he has feelings and emotions. Isn't it enough that his circumstances forced him to come work here and leave his family behind?! You now come ask him if he has a right to do this and that!"

"The man behind this video is ridiculing this worker"

"What do you mean, 'does he have a right to?'"

Everyone found the question bizarre

"Such a weird question. Have we reached a level where we think expats and cleaners don't deserve to drink coffee?"

To say the least

"Why wouldn't he drink coffee from Starbucks? It's a coffee shop, they don't need to know what your profession is! Allow me, but no one has the right to discriminate this way."

"Isn't he a human being or do you just view these people as slaves?"

"The person you filmed has this right and more."
