Footage of a Kuwaiti father attacking a child after he won a karate match against his son sent people into a complete meltdown on social media.

The incident took place just minutes after a karate match the 10-year-old victim and the defendant's son had ended, Al Rai newspaper reports

Speaking to the local newspaper, the child's father shared details of the attack, saying:

"My son and his rival played against each other in the match. When my son was announced as the winner he went over to the child and the two amicably hugged. However, just minutes later we were all shocked to see the rival's father rushing to the scene and violently attacking my child."

The victim's father explained his son sustained fractures and bruises during the assault.

Authorities are now investigating the incident

According to Al Rai, the victim's parents have now filed a police report against the Kuwaiti father.

They've also submitted medical reports that reveal the extent of their son's injuries.

Police have now summoned the defendant for investigation. It is expected that after his interrogation, he will face legal consequences in the case.

The footage made the rounds online

Soon after the video capturing the incident went viral online earlier this week, it sparked outrage among hundreds who deemed the man's behavior "violent," and "unacceptable."

A few also claimed the father's actions were fueled by racism against Egyptians.

However, the majority of tweeps explained that this is an individual case, stressing that it isn't tied to any form of discrimination against Egyptians in the Gulf state.

Sparking intense backlash among users...

"I just can't even fathom the footage capturing a Kuwaiti father beating up an Egyptian child over the fact that the latter won against his son."

"This is a sport... where's the sportsmanship?"

"This is such racist, uncivilized behavior"

But it doesn't represent Kuwait or Kuwaitis...

"As an Egyptian, I say that this unacceptable behavior only represents this individual. Kuwaitis are respectable people and have nothing to do with this incident, they're also angered by it. It's just wrong to resort to generalization when reacting to this."
