On Friday, Kuwait's public prosecution detained social media star Abdullah Al Jasem, publicly known as 3bodkaThis came in the wake of an online controversy he sparked after calling people criticizing him "crap".

The insult came after thousands attacked him over the drowning of a pet dog he had left unattended, accusing him of animal abuse.

3bodka had posted about the pet's tragic death on Snapchat, sparking an ongoing stir on Kuwaiti social media platforms.

Authorities arrested the star over his insult of Kuwaiti people

According to Al Rai newspaper, the star was called in by authorities on Friday but was later detained and held because investigations into his case weren't over.

However, he wasn't arrested in relation to the pet's death but in response to a complaint filed by Kuwait's cybercrime division against the celebrity, accusing him of insulting Kuwaiti nationals.

On Monday, the star was released after he posted bail.

3bodka's detention left Kuwaiti tweeps divided...

Many were all for the arrest...

"Even if he didn't mean it, his mistake is inexcusable. He's a public figure and must act according to that."

"Less than what you deserve"

"He said things that he must be held accountable over"

"Now someone will come up and ask us to remember his good deeds. If this is how it is then I'll go do charity and then insult people and ask them to forgive me because I am a good person!! That doesn't make sense."

Others completely disagreed though...

"This is so disheartening... and what makes it even more upsetting is the tons of lawyers who've filed reports against him for such a simple matter... they're going to send him to jail for five years over a moment of anger. That's unfair."

Many felt the incident had been blown out of proportion...

"Honestly, this just too much!!!!"

Some launched a hashtag in support of the celebrity...

"Currently, hashtag '3bodka is one of your own' is topping trends in Kuwait."

And vehemently defended him...

"It's hurtful when we punish someone over his reaction in a moment of anger. Those who know Abdullah know how much he cares about humanity and helping those in need."

Others shared their words of support...

"We are with you 3bodka."
