Hair dye. It's a wonderful thing that Arabs have been doing for an eternity. Long before the first synthetic hair dye in the early 1900s, there was henna, and we've used it to color our hair since Ancient Egypt.
So when it comes to hair color, we go all out. And celebrities are no exception.
1. Angham
Angham is one of the most successful vocal female artists in Egypt. And it's no small wonder. Looking back at her photo as a teen, you can see her black unruly hair take charge.
2. Samira Said
Hair really makes a world of a difference, doesn't it? We now know her for long sun-kissed brown/blonde hair (notice the pink strands?)...but really back in the day, she looked just like our moms in our old family photo albums.
3. Najwa Karam
Her tame, light brown look nowadays tells a very different story from her past. Her hair is really jet black, and has volume for days. It's the very definition of Arab hairdom.
4. Nawal El Kwaytiya
The musical icon has changed her hair color multiple times over the years, and it's hard to keep track. But really, her roots trace back to dark brown.
5. Latifa Bint Alayah El Arfaoui
Tunisian Latifa Bint Alayah El Arfaoui went from sleek black hair to a lighter brown strands. It's not a drastic change, but one that makes all the difference.
6. Assala Nasri
Nasri's golden brown hair looks quite authentic, but don't be fooled. Her roots are black. And we can't believe she's the same person in the before and after pictures.
7. Naya
She came out of Dancing with the stars (season 1) a winner, and a lot of us remember her for her platinum hair. But, she wasn't always a blonde, and it's not so hard to notice her black roots even now.
8. Nina Abdel Malak
Lebanese Instagram singer Nina Abdel Malak competed in Star Academy (Season 8), and has since grown to become an icon in the digital media world.
