It was just another night on the King Abdullah road in Saudi Arabia's Howtat Bani Tamim area when a crocodile casually strolled down the street on Tuesday.

Passersby who were quite startled by the sighting immediately called local authorities who quickly arrived at the scene. Footage captured by onlookers shows policemen tying the animal down and taking control of the situation.

Sources speaking to Ajel news site said the creature had escaped a wild animal festival that had been taking place in the city a few days back.

The animal was reported missing by the festival's authorities, and Saudi police were searching for it when they got a report it had been spotted. The animal has since been returned to the people who are responsible for it.

Several videos capturing the crocodile incident as it unfolded in Riyadh naturally made their way to Saudi Twitter.

Some people initially thought the animal might've escaped a home where it was being kept as a pet, but that didn't turn out to be the case. Others expressed their shock at the incident and called on those who attend to wild animals to take precautions preventing their escape.

In other news, fish were found in muddy land in Al Kharj

Also this week, a group of expat workers found plenty of fish stuck in puddles of muddy water in Al Kharj, south of Riyadh.

Even though the area where the fish were found looked like it could host a monster truck event easily, it instead hosted catfish and other types of bottom lurkers.

Reportedly found in Al Sahbaa' valley, reasons for the unusual quantity found is believed to be related to the heavy rain that hit the kingdom in previous weeks.

As for wild animals, it wasn't the first time one was spotted walking down the streets of Saudi Arabia

In 2018, a gorilla was spotted walking through a Riyadh street and sent people into a complete frenzy. At the time, images of the incident went viral on Saudi Twitter and a search was launched for the animal.

That same year, Saudi authorities in Mecca went looking for a tiger after it was allegedly spotted near a highway in Al Ju'ranah city. After searching the location, police found no trace of the animal and the case was later dismissed.
