Fromer FIFA presidential contender Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan criticized the group's outgoing President Sepp Blatter for trying to rush through reforms before he officially leaves office.
"We need a clear process, clear timelines, and a very clear remit. And all this should belong to the new president," Ali said, according to Reuters.
"It is the role of the new president to put in place the necessary systems to implement the changes that FIFA so desperately needs, not a Task Force trying to rush this through in less than 60 days,"
In FIFA's May election, which occurred just days after nine FIFA officials and five FIFA affiliated sports officials were indicted in the United States, Ali competed against Blatter, the highly favored incumbent to assume the presidency of the international organization.
Batter easily won despite the developing scandal, receiving 133 votes compared to Ali's 73. Just days later, Blatter resigned due to the scandal, which accused highly placed FIFA officials of bribery, money laundering and wire fraud charges.
Ali's recent criticism comes after Blatter announced Monday that a special task force was being created to research and suggest reforms by FIFA's next executive committee meeting to be held in September. Blatter insisted that a "neutral chairman" would be charged with leading the task force.
However, Ali believes that the timeframe is far too short to implement any meaningful reforms.
"How can this Task Force address change in any meaningful way within such a short timeline? There can be no quick fix to issues that are clearly structural," he said.
"Any Task Force that really will have the clout to bring about such vital reform should be a totally independent body, not from within the governance structure of FIFA."
It remains unclear whether Ali will once again throw his hat into the ring for the presidency of FIFA when elections are held in February.
