Israeli police forces shot dead a Palestinian minor in the Old City of occupied East Jerusalem Sunday, after she allegedly attempted to carry out a stabbing attack, Israeli police said.
Israeli police spokeswoman Luba al-Samri said the teenager was shot dead after she approached Israeli police officers stationed at the Damascus Gate ( Bab al-Amud ) entrance to the Old City while holding a knife, Ma'an reported.
The victim, 16-year-old Palestinian Fatima Afif Abd al-Rahman Hjeiji, from the Ramallah district of the occupied West Bank was shot at least 10 times. No Israeli police officers had been injured in the alleged attack.
According to Ma'an, Hjeiji is the 7th Palestinian minor to have been killed by Israelis since the beginning of 2017.
Though Israeli forces often claim that the Palestinians who are killed are often allegedly attempting to carry out stabbing attacks, Palestinians and rights groups have disputed Israel's version of events in a number of cases. Eyewitnesses said that after shooting Hjeiji, a knife was planted next to the slain teen.
