Prominent Lebanese-French musician Ibrahim Maalouf will play his first concert in Egypt in March, according to the Egyptian music agency Sawt Music, which is organizing the event.

The company made the announcement on its official Facebook page, saying that the concert would be in Cairo and that further details about the exact date and venue would be announced soon.

The concert organizer is credited with bringing several other world-renowned regional artists to Egyptian audiences in recent years.

Sawt Music has previously organized concerts in Cairo and Alexandria for Algerian singer and musician Souad Massi, Palestinian singer and composer Rim Banna and Lebanese singer, musician and composer Marcel Khalife.

Maalouf in particular strikes a chord with Egyptian music fans due to the classical Egyptian influences in his music.

This has been most notable in his latest album "Kalthoum," a jazz interpretation of "Alf Leila We Leila," which is one of the most iconic songs of legendary Egyptian singer Umm Kalthoum, who like Fairouz, is one of Maalouf's main music inspirations.

The award-winning trumpeter and composer gained prominence for continuing the innovative path started by his father Nassim Maalouf, who pioneered the use of the trumpet to play Arabic music by introducing quarter tones to the predominately European instrument.

After fleeing Beirut with his family during the Lebanese Civil War, Maalouf settled in Paris where his father taught him classical European and Arabic music, as well as how to play his pioneering quarter-tone trumpet.

In the following years, he played alongside his father in his concerts across Europe and the Middle East, which had a great influence on the young musician's identity as a performer. After deciding to become a professional musician and winning numerous trumpet competitions around the world, Maalouf started making his own music.

With the release of his albums, the young musician started to become a pioneer in his own right as he developed his unique fusion of contemporary jazz with classical oriental music, rock, hip-hop and electronic music.

Maalouf has so far released eight studio albums, produced soundtracks for several French films and performed with music heavy-weights such as Sting and Elvis Costello.
