Led by the accomplished businessman Robert Simonds, Hollywood production house STX Films recently announced their plans to shoot a biopic based on the life of former President of the UAE and Ruler of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

According to The National, Shekhar Kapur has signed on to direct the film and Cliff Dorfman will pen the screenplay.

Sheikh Zayed was instrumental in the formation of the UAE in 1971 and is credited with transforming the country into a modern and progressive state. During his reign as the nation's first President, Sheikh Zayed strived to create a world of coexistence and peace.

Considered a liberal ruler for the time period, he became known for promoting tolerance, universal human values, women's rights and environmental protection, and carried out major reforms to the UAE's education, healthcare, public housing, and urban development.

It is currently unknown whether the movie will film in the UAE, or whether local talent actors or crew will take part in the shooting.
