With steam-powered technology (cogs and all) coupled with the quirky charms of the Victorian era and distinctive flair from the 1800s, Steampunk is a unique science fiction and fantasy genre that has been alive and kicking since around 1987. Steampunk still has a lively fan base and this sub-culture continues to pop up in music, literature, manga, comics, fashion and more. Mainstream films such as The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Sherlock Holmes, Wild Wild West, Van Helsing and Howl's Moving Castle, to name just a few, all owe their ambiance to Steampunk.
