In a shocking crime that left Egyptians outraged, the father of an infant who was raped earlier last year, was killed by the rapist's relatives.

According to Youm 7, the convicted rapist's relatives stabbed the man to death after he refused to forfeit the "personal right" in his child's case.

"The group of men called the father and arranged a meeting with him. He agreed to it and was willing to speak to them once more after previous negotiations over the matter had failed," Youm 7 wrote.

"However, the moment they saw the victim approaching them, they attacked, fatally wounding him," the publication added.

The murder comes just a year after the victim's little boy, Hamza, was raped by a group of men who also threw the toddler from the roof of the building where he lived, in a bid to cover up their crime.

In the days leading up to the murder, the father had received several text messages threatening him and demanding that he withdrew the case against the men who raped his son.

The men, who were arrested shortly after raping and attempting to murder the child, had been facing trial.

The defendants had offered the parents money in return for their backtracking on the case. However, the couple consistently refused any monetary deal and were adamant on seeing justice done in their son's case.

People are outraged over the crime

"Since it took a court an entire year to investigate the boy's rape and they never even issued a sentence in the case, what did you expect? Immediate action is the solution in such horrific cases."

"The lack of justice in this case is unacceptable"

"Police should've provided this man with protection"

Many are understandably upset

"We're now living in a jungle."

"Egypt is still a nation of mafias"
