Iconic Egyptian actress Faten Hamama, who died in January, was the top trending person in Egypt this year, according to Google's 2015 Year in Search list.
The "Lady of the Arab screen" was followed by another icon of Egyptian cinema, actor Omar Sharif who was married to Hamama for more than 15 years and also died this year, just months after his ex-wife.
The death of the two beloved screen idols only months apart not only devastated many Egyptians, it also brought on a renewed wave of nostalgia for the golden age of Egyptian cinema that unsurprisingly, found its place on the Internet.
Other late cinema stars dominated the list, including Egyptian actor Nour El-Sherif and Egyptian actress Mirna El-Mohandes, who both died in August and followed Sharif at No. 3 and 4, as well as Egyptian actor Said Tarabeek who died in November and was No. 9 on the trending list.
The funerals of Hamama and El-Sherif also landed on the list of events, as they were the third and fourth most searched events in Egypt. The top trending event of the year was the inauguration of the new Suez Canal.
In other categories, the Ramadan TV series "Ramez Wakel El-Gaw" topped the list of the most searched TV programs, beating MBC's hit show "The Voice," which came in at No. 4.
In a popular episode of "Ramez Wakel El-Gaw," Egyptian host Ramez Galal pranked American heiress Paris Hilton, which landed Hilton herself on the list of the most searched people at No. 6.
As for the most searched topics overall, the popular song "Mafish Saheb Beyetsaheb" topped the list, it also was the second most searched song, while "Enta Me'alem" was the most searched song of the year.
"Ramez Wakel El-Gaw," El-Mohandes and El-Sherif made another appearance on the overall searches list as well, coming in at No. 2, 5 and 10, respectively.
