The hit UAE show " Million's Poet " is about to return for its seventh season, and fans are already getting worked up.
The contest, which pits poets against each other for a top prize of 5 million dirhams, is known for featuring the highest calibre of poetry in the Arab world and after a year of auditions, 48 poets are ready to strut their stuff starting February 12.
"All the participants took written and oral tests to determine their skills and assess their talents when it comes to key aspects, including metre, rhyme, poetic language, creative structure, figurative language, composition, improvisation and recital," said Sultan Al Ameemi, one of the jury members and the director of the Poetry Academy at Abu Dhabi’s Cultural Programs and Heritage Festivals Committee.
This year's crop of contestants hail from 9 Arab countries. Saudi Arabia had the largest number of poets, with 19 competitors, followed by Kuwait with 11 poets, followed by Jordan and the UAE with 5 poets each. Oman had 3 poets get into the competition, Qatar had 2, and Bahrain, Palestine, and Yemen had one poet each.
Fans are ready for what is being billed as the best season yet – for a show that already beats out football games for viewership in the UAE.
