If you thought rent down on the ground was already sky-high, prepare to be shocked by Etihad Airways and their latest foray into the world of luxury aviation. Boasting a hefty price tag of $20,000 per one-way trip, their latest offering of an onboard cabin, aptly-named The Residence, is a lavish suite designed to offer you all the opulence of a five-star hotel aboard the world's largest commercial jetliner.
Featuring a double bedroom, living room and shower cubicle for a total immersion experience, The Residence comes complete with a Savoy-trained "flying butler" and a dedicated staff available to satisfy your every whim. The suite is currently being offered for one route: the Abu Dhabi to London journey, with imminent plans to expand.
In spite of what would by most measures seem to be an inhibiting price tag, Etihad announced that all cabins have been already fully booked for the inaugural ten flights. This is just the tip of the iceberg as Gulf carriers differentiate into the high-end avitation market with competitors Emirates and Qatar Airways making similar moves.
