The Panorama of the European Film, one of Egypt's biggest cinematic events, will not only be exclusive to Cairo's moviegoers this year.
Starting Nov. 25, the eighth edition of the highly anticipated festival is expanding to multiple venues outside of the capital, screening at Tanta's Rivoli Cinema, Alexandria's Amir Cinema and Minya's CityScape Cinema.
In addition, the 10-day event is also increasing its reach inside Cairo with the addition of new venues such as New Cairo's Point 90, Sheikh Zayed's Plaza Cinema and Downtown Cairo's Karim Cinema.
Special screenings will also be held in Downtown Cairo's cultural centers: The Italian Culture Institute, the Goethe Institute, and the French Institute.
The Panorama was an initiative launched in 2004 by Misr International Films, the Egyptian production company established in 1972 by late Egyptian cinema legend Youssef Chahine that also started Cairo's first art-house cinema initiative Zawya in 2014.
The annual event presents a selection of award-winning feature films and documentary productions from European countries to Egyptian film enthusiasts and expatriates as well.
The high quality of the films presented, as well as the open space for discussion and debate with prominent Egyptian and international film industry professionals have made the Panorama a staple of Egypt's cultural scene.
"In a world filled with nothing but bad news, where negativity is everywhere, there's a team of film-heads working tirelessly to make this year's Panorama happen. Join us on a 10 day journey where we can all be weird film-heads together," the organization said on its Facebook page .
This year's festival will screen 60 European films in 10 themed sections including the Emerging Directors section which presents the promising debuts of new directors from different countries.
It will also feature the Balkan Focus section which presents films selected from the Balkan region and the Carte Blanche section, which presents films exclusively selected by three Egyptian directors for having an impact on their cinematic vision.
