Egyptian film "Shad Agzaa" earned the highest revenues over the Eid Al-Fitr holiday in Egypt, beating out the four other films that were shown as it generated half of the total take earned by the five films, reported Egypt Independent .
The action drama, which was directed by Hussein El Menabawy and starred Mohamed Ramadan, reportedly generated about 12.5 million Egyptian pounds, while the other four Eid films generated a combined 12.5 million pounds.
It was followed by “Welad Rizk” starring Ahmed Ezz, which generated 6 million Egyptian pounds; “Hayati Mebahdela” starring Mohamed Saad, which generated 4 million; “Sokkar Morr” starring Ahmed al-Fishawy and “Nom al-Talat” starring Hany Ramzy, with each generating 1 million.
The 25 million Egyptian pounds generated by the five Eid films were considered a record-breaking comeback for Egyptian cinema. Egyptian producer Ahmed Badawy told Al-Masry Al-Youm that he was over-joyed with the quality of this year's Eid films, adding that he personally favored "Shad Agzaa," "Welad Rizk," and "Sokkar Morr."
Due to the popularity of "Shad Agzaa," the Tahrir movie theater replaced “Welad Risk” with “Shad Agzaa” on the second day of the Eid holiday but showed it again later as the producers of the film filed an official complaint.
In addition, it was reported that other theaters showed “Nom al-Talat” and “Sokkar Morr” in smaller halls to leave the large screens to “Shad Agzaa.”
The film, which was produced by Al-Sobky Productions, is a thriller about a young man who gets thrown into a world of trouble and revenge after he loses his wife in a life-changing event that ends his career and puts him on a path filled with dangerous consequences.
