Arab street artists perfectly troll 'Homeland'

Arab street artists just majorly trolled one of the most offensive shows to Arabs and Muslims currently on television.

Homeland has been strongly criticized for its blatantly inaccurate portrayals of Arabs, Muslims and the Middle East ever since the first season of "Homeland" aired with terribly problematic success.

Now in its fifth season, things definitely haven't gotten any better. So, when we saw how amazingly a group of Arab street artists critiqued the show through their graffiti artwork smeared across the set, we couldn't help but smile.

Creators of the show approached Heba Amin, Caram Kapp and an artist known as Stone and asked them to provide "authentic" graffiti on the set in Germany used in the filming of the second episode of the current season. Although the artists were initially skeptical, due to the show's reputation, they realized they could use this as an opportunity to make a statement.

"Given the series' reputation, we were not easily convinced, until we considered what a moment of intervention could relay about our own and many others' political discontent with the series," the artists said in an artist statement posted after the episode aired.

"It was our moment to make our point by subverting the message by using the show itself."

Although the artists initially planned to be subtle in their criticism, when it actually came time to paint, they quickly realized nobody was actually going to check what they wrote. After all, the show has never been too concerned about accuracy. So, they became even more subversive in their messages than originally intended.
