If you ever fell ill in Egypt and had to go to a hospital to get treated, you would know why the majority of Egyptians loathe the health care system and would do anything possible not to step foot in the hospital.
There were many attempts to shed light onto inadequacy of the health care system in Egypt including civilians who often take to Twitter, Facebook, and other social media outlets to illuminate the dangers of getting ill in Egypt while calling out doctors and nurses who lack the necessary skills to treat them.
#EgyptianNurse, a trending topic on Twitter, is the absolute opposite of that common action practiced by the so many Egyptians. Instead of ridiculing people, Egyptians are now trying to understand why is it the so many people in the health care industry seem to lack training.
With the help of social media, we can now understand the root of the issue.
"A renowned doctor once to me 'doctors in Egypt have a low number of nurses. Abroad, they have many nurses which is why they're successful.'"
"Egyptian nurses get out their frustration on the ill."
"The tip of her nail is more valuable than anyone who tries to belittle what she does. When decide to talk about Egyptians, remember their history."
"An Egyptian nurse working in Egypt had her rights taken away. Abroad however, they always become more creative and excel at their jobs. It's the system's fault that caused messed up the nursing field in the country."
"A while ago, my dad ended up at the governmental hospital. I gave the nurses taking care of him money to split between them in order to ensure he receives proper treatment. They refused the payment and I saw the best treatment they could provide."
"Indignity and inadequacy has nothing to do with the profession. There a doctors, architects and teachers who are worst of the human kind. Every profession has its good and bad people."
There's a root to every issue and even though there may be no clear cause why the health care system in Egypt is below average, the hashtag did start the discussion.
