Earlier this week, Egypt’s parliamentary speaker Ali Abdel Aal was displeased with an MP's choice of clothes while attending the council, according to Arab News.
In the presence of Egypt's Environment Minister, a serious discussion of "garbage and waste recycling crisis" was taking place at Tuesday's meeting.
Media outlets described the attire worn by MP Hosam Al-Refaie as "casual clothes", while the MP was wearing a shirt and pants as he said in an interview with a local Egyptian TV channel.
"I will not allow this council to turn into a football stadium."
Abdel Aal criticized Al-Refaie's outfit by saying:
"This council has parliamentary traditions, it is forbidden to wear a shirt and trousers while attending."
He also gave the "defiant" MP a few options to pick from for such governmental meetings: a suit, a galabiya, or any outfit that is fitted for a parliament.

"I would only wear a suit on my kids' wedding day."
In a phone call interview with Egyptian TV show "Sah el Nom", Al-Refaie was asked by the host about details of the incident, reporting what the media wrote on the matter.
"What happened is that I was going out of a room, wearing a shirt and pants, and Abdel Aal reminded me of the official dress code of the parliament," Al-Refaie said.
"I told him how this is my official dress code as I'm wearing a classical shirt and pants. If there is any rule that states I should wear a specific outfit, I should be told," he continued.
He went on to say that all members of parliament wear what they see fit and that he is not a fan of colors and formal attire.
