They praise yogurt for fixing your problems and helping you lead a healthy life ... but, well, seems it could lead to a divorce, too. "Everything in moderation" seems to be the only winning quote in the following story.
A young Egyptian man divorced his wife of four months because she overspent money on facial masks made out of yogurt.
The 28-year-old husband told a court he wanted to separate from his wife due to several issues including the excessive amounts of yogurt in her skincare routine.
"She would ask me to buy huge amounts of yogurt. In the end, it turned out she was using the quantities in her face masks. She doesn't care about me, doesn't spend time with me and only talks to me when she wants me to buy things for her," the man said.
Shouldn't he be lucky she didn't fancy masks made out of gold?
The man claimed he tried working out these problems with his wife, but ended up fighting with and insulting her in front of her friends. He filed for a divorce after she left their marital home and refused to reconcile with him.
In statements to press, he dubbed her a "spoiled only child," and said she obsessively spent money on skincare.
The case was first reported last week and is now making headlines everywhere.
Not the only bizarre divorce case to recently make it to Egyptian courts
Another strange divorce incident was recently reported by Egyptian media, and saw a man divorce his wife because "she always smells like onions and garlic."
Quite opposite of the case where the wife took "too much care of herself." In this one, the husband told a judge he wanted a separation because his wife "neglected her appearance."
"We married after falling in love. She's our neighbor's daughter and everyone always complimented her homemaking skills. She is an excellent housewife and takes care of all the chores. But, I recently noticed she doesn't take care of herself at all. She doesn't regularly change her clothes and is always focused on cleaning and cooking," the husband said.
"I slept in the living room for 3 months because she smelled like onions and garlic," he added.
After he tried to discuss the matter with his wife, she got upset and left their marital home. All reconciliation attempts failed to save the marriage of three months, which ultimately ended in divorce.
Bizarre Arab divorces aren't that uncommon
Weird Arab divorce cases are based on anything and everything but logic.
After all, where's the logic in divorcing over a shawarma wrap or a birthday surprise?
But these are actual incidents that went down in countries across the region and, unfortunately, they aren't uncommon.
