From its sublime Nile river, to its rich cultural heritage and historic civilizations, Egypt has been an ever-inspiring staple in art and literature. This week, Egyptian charm made its way to the Paris Fashion Week runway, thanks to renowned Lebanese fashion designer Elie Saab.
Finding muse in what he calls the "Arab epoch", Saab's Spring/Summer 2017 Haute Couture collection showcases a contemporary take on Oriental glamour. Dubbed "The Birth of Light", his collection pays tribute to the 1940-1960 post-war Egypt period, also recognized as "an era that still sparkles in our memories", Saab's official Twitter account said.
"People were able to express themselves and their creative talents in theater, art, journalism, music, and cinema, transforming Egypt into a hub for progress and allowing Arabic culture to flourish," Saab told Vogue.
The Birth of Light collection features a Parisian twist on Oriental patterns and embroidery, Islamic architectural shapes and arabesque headpieces.
And, what's Egypt without Um Kulthum? The legendary singer's Alf Layla Wa Layla earned a spot on the show's playlist.
Saab never fails to wow us, here's a glimpse of his stunning SS17 collection:
From boats "dancing" in the Nile
To the city of Domyat's iconic palm trees
"On the runway, the tulle almost disappeared, so the river, trees, and clouds seemed to float," writes Vogue.
The evil eye made an appearance
An ode to the fierce Arab woman
It's all in the details
But who said Saab can't go embellishment-free?
And the grand finale... ziffo el 3aroos ziffooha!
Here's a video of the entire show:
Saab has been gracing international runways and red carpets since dressing American actress Halle Berry for her 2002 Oscar win, so we're practically sure some of these fabulous gowns will make their way to the red carpet.
