Just when you thought Egypt's mummies were all out of their cases ... an archaeological mission discovers at least 17 new ones.
The mission unveiled a necropolis - an ancient cemetery - near the Nile Valley city of Minya in the village of Tuna al-Gabal, about 220 kilometers south of Cairo, the antiquities ministry announced on Saturday.
The necropolis dates back to the Late Period of Ancient Egypt and the Greco-Roman period and is considered to be the "first human necropolis to be found here in Tuna al-Gabal," Khaled al-Anani, Egypt's Antiquities Minister, told AP.
The burial chamber was first detected last year by a team of Cairo University students using a radar and is currently in the early discovery stages.
As many as 32 mummies may be hidden in the chamber, said Salah el-Kholi, a Cairo University Egyptology professor who led the mission, according to Al Jazeera.
The recent discovery also includes six sarcophagi, two clay coffins, two papyri written in demotic script as well as a number of vessels.
But it seems as though not everyone is excited about the discovery. Some people are actually scared, and Tom Cruise seems to be one of them!
In a tweet following the news, the 54-year-old actor told people to "be careful" when opening "those things."
But in reality, he was just subtly promoting his upcoming film.
