A new suburb is being built in one of the busiest places in Dubai, between The Palm and Dubai Marina.

The Dubai Harbour is kicking-off development in 2017, and as you'd expect from the emirate, it's going to set some new standards for the biggest and tallest ...

Dubai Harbour will feature the tallest lighthouse in the world

The lighthouse will stand at 135 meters (about 2 meters taller than the Jeddah Light in Saudi Arabia, which is currently the tallest). It is being built with materials that enable the building to be used as a huge screen for projections and light shows.

The island will also include a shopping mall that covers 3.5 million square feet (out of 20 million square feet total), an events arena, hotels, residential areas, and retail stores.

Dubai Harbour will be the largest marina in the MENA region

The Dubai Harbour will feature the Middle East and North Africa's largest marina, with over 1,400 berths and a cruise ship port. This adds to the 3,000 berths Dubai already owns .

The project will be completed in 4 years once construction starts. Developers expect people to be living in the new area by 2021.

It's set to be "a world-class waterfront"

Dubai Media Office posted a video this week that describes the new project as "a world-class waterfront destination that adopts a culture of innovation and offers the highest standards of luxury."

The Dubai Harbour will be located to the right of JBR and just to the left of The Palm islands. In fact, like The Palm, it will be a manmade island as well.

The development combines the shoreline of Al Sufouh into one area, which includes Skydive Dubai and Dubai International Marine Club. This is shown by the yellow outlined area in the photo above.

This project is being developed by Meraas, the same development that gave Dubai the City Walk, Boxpark and Outlet Village.
