The sixth edition of the Middle East Film and Comic-Con (MEFCC) is currently taking place in Dubai.

The three day pop culture event launched on Thursday wraps up on Saturday, and is expected to host more than 70,000 visitors this weekend.

Mona Al Marri, Director general of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) inaugurated the event. Speaking at the opening she said that the “Middle East Film and Comic Con 2017 further reinforces Dubai’s profile as a hub for major events in the cultural and entertainment sector."

The event celebrates comic book characters as well as animation and sci-fi entertainment.

Speaking to Arab News, event exhibitor Yasser Alireza said: “There’s a vibrant local — expat and indigenous — appetite for pop culture content, hobbyist activity and a culture that’s eager to produce and consume entertainment."

This edition features a special Star Trek 50-Year Exhibit, which includes creative tributes from 50 artists based in 10 different countries. It also includes a Novo & IMAX Cine Club, and many other events and competitions organized throughout the weekend.
