Three students from the American University in Dubai have a dream to meet a man they truly admire: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai and vice president of the United Arab Emirates.

When they were assigned a project for their documentary film class, Adnan Sharawi, Miriam Kist and Alia Hammouri decided to take things to another level. While brainstorming they came up with the idea to explore the "six degrees" concept.

"We were brainstorming and sort of thinking about how six degrees of separation works. And we wanted to try it out on actual real ground. We wanted to do something that every Dubai citizen or local can relate to," Hammouri, who originally hails from Jordan and is the director of the film, told StepFeed.

The "six degrees" theory suggests that everyone is connected through only six connections. For their film, the students wanted to put the theory to the test to see if they could reach someone important or famous.

"We were like, who is someone who is so inspirational and hard to get? So yeah, Sheikh Mohammed," Hammouri said.

However, more than being famous and hard to reach, the young filmmakers all expressed their personal admiration for the emirate's ruler.

"He's our target because he's the role model of Dubai," Sharawi, who also hails from Jordan and is the film's cinematographer, explained.

"The school that we're in, Sheikh Mohammed is the biggest sponsor of it. So he means something to us as well."

While the project is still in its beginning stages and they still don't know if they will actually reach Sheikh Mohammed, the young filmmakers have already been happy with the attention they have received on social media. They also stressed that while meeting Dubai's ruler is "the challenge", the film is meant to focus on their effort and the people they meet in the process.

We received a lot of messages asking about the people behind the project .. We tried to hide our excitement but IT'S SO...

"We're still in the process of filming. We have two of our connections and we are waiting to reach our third connection." Kist, the film's producer who comes from Egypt, told StepFeed.

"Whether we reach him or not, it's still the journey and how we're going to meet the people on the way." Sharawi said.

And what will they say to Sheikh Mohammed if "six degrees" lead them to him?

"We thought about it a lot," Kist said. "We're going to be so shocked."

"We don't want to talk to him as the ruler of Dubai; we want to talk to him as a person. We want to know him as a person," Sharawi explained.

"The initial thought was to ask: 'If you didn't use your power, what person would you try to get to through six degrees?'" Hammouri said.
