The seventh Walk for Education, organized by Dubai Cares, aims to inspire residents of the United Arab Emirates to make a difference.

The event by the Emirati philanthropic organization will be held on Mar. 4 at Dubai Creek Park, which lies next to Dubai's Al Garhoud Bridge. The annual event is a three kilometer walk that aims to highlight the struggle of underprivileged children around the world who walk an average of three kilometers to reach their schools, as well as encourage people to support them.

The slogan of the 2016 edition is "Walk the Distance. Make a Difference." Registration for the event will kick off at 8 a.m. and will be followed by the 45-minute walk starting at 9 a.m. The rest of the day is packed with various entertainment activities.

"The Walk for Education symbolizes the support and empathy of the UAE community to walk side-by-side with children in developing countries, who endure exhausting journeys to and from school in order to gain access to education," said CEO of Dubai Cares Tariq Al-Gurg, according to the organization's press release .

"The Walk for Education is testament to the deep desire of children in the developing world to aspire to a better life for themselves and their communities, and it is with the ongoing support of the UAE community that Dubai Cares is able to realize that aspiration for those children."

The initiative, which drew more than 8,000 participants last year, aims to raise awareness in the UAE about access to quality education and the challenges that obstruct it in developing countries around the world.

Dubai Cares, which was founded in 2007, works mainly on providing children in developing countries with access to quality primary education and on securing equal access for boys and girls.

The philanthropic organization approaches this mission through various integrated programs including building and renovating schools, improving water, sanitation and hygiene in schools and providing teacher training and curriculum development.

It was launched by Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid, in line with the UAE's commitment to abide by two of the UN's Millennium Development Goals: Achieve universal primary education and promote gender equality.
