Annually, the month of October is dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness around the world.

It is a time in which millions of people raise awareness about the implications of the disease as well as the importance of early detection.

Pinktober is also devoted to acknowledging the resilience of the countless brave women worldwide who have battled - or are still battling - the disease.

Nearly 40 percent of cancer cases in the UAE are breast cancer related

According to latest statistics, around 170 women in Dubai are diagnosed with either breast and/or ovarian cancer annually.

Nearly 40 percent of cancer cases diagnosed in the UAE are breast cancer related and over 20 percent of all female deaths in the country can be attributed to breast cancer.

In honor of the affected individuals and the greater cause, the owner of a Dubai-based hair salon, called The BlowOut Bar, has inaugurated a rather impressive initiative of its own.

At the start of October, Lana Ghandour, the founder of the salon located on the Palm Jumeirah kicked off its #blowoutcancer campaign with a pink branded truck that is currently touring iconic places around the city.

While the pink truck has taken a persona of its own, it intends to send a more serious message.

The aim of BlowOut Bar's pink truck is to help remind residents and visitors across Dubai that breast cancer is real.

The disease does not differentiate based on race, age, or gender, and although women are most affected by it, breast cancer does occur in men too!

The truck’s presence is intended to be a reminder that regular check-ups are important and early detection is critical to battling the disease.

The BlowOut Bar has also partnered with the multi-talented brand ambassador, spokesmodel, and influencer Megan Pormer to help spread the word on the benefits of understanding one’s genetics and how that can help with early detection.

“Our genes are amazing and packed with personalized information about our health,” said Pormer.

“Understanding our genetic make-up and what we are prone to, is a powerful tool in early detection and battling cancer,” the powerful Hollywood influencer Pormer added.

Look out for the #blowoutcancer truck in Dubai and follow The BlowOut Bar’s Instagram page for more information and inspiring stories of breast cancer survivors.

Most importantly, don’t forget to schedule your check-up today and encourage others around you to do the same.
