Migrant-Rights.org has launched a special Ramadan campaign for migrant workers promoting the need for a balance between work and life for everyone.
Countries throughout the Middle East have been criticized for their treatment of migrant laborers. The controversial Kafala system is used by many countries to govern migrants lives, often requiring laborers to turn over their passports to employers and forbidding them from changing jobs without their employer's consent. Physical, emotional and sexual abuse are also all too common.
Qatar has received a great deal of criticism of its Kafala system in the wake of its bid to host the 2022 World Cup. However, the government has stated repeatedly that it is working on reforming the inhumane laws. Just this week, Qatar's Advisory Council sent back a reform law for further revisions.
