Nearly one in three Arab youths are unemployed, more than three times the global average, according to the director general of the Arab Labor Organization.

Ahmad Mohammed Luqman told AFP that more than 30 percent of the region's youths were unemployed, while speaking on the sidelines of the ALO's annual meeting in Kuwait .

“Due to unrest in several Arab nations, the number of Arabs without jobs has jumped two million since 2011, making the total number of unemployed Arabs at 20 million,” Luqman said.

The jobless numbers are expected to rise in the Arab world, for at least two more years. While Arab economies are growing between 2 - 3 percent, they need an annual growth rate of 6 percent in order to contain unemployment and poverty.
